ZIMBABWE will forever remain grateful, not only for the assistance it got from Mozambique during the war of liberation, but also for taking good care of the nation’s war shrines in the neighbouring country, Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi has said.
Vice President Mohadi said this while addressing a group of locals who had gathered after his tour of Doroei Shrine in Gondola District of Manica Province in Mozambique this morning.
The tour of Doreoi Shrine, which is part of a comprehensive assessment of what needs to be done at the liberation war shrines in different neighbouring countries, further revealed the preservation efforts and attention that Mozambicans are giving to Zimbabwe’s liberation war shrines.
Vice President Mohadi said: “I came here to assess what needs to be done to improve the state of this shrine, as I have going around doing the same at different shrines here in Mozambique and other neighbouring countries.
“However, when I saw you gathered here, I told myself that I cannot just go without interfacing with you. I felt I should thank you, Mozambicans for the good job you are doing in preserving our history, our liberation war shrines. You supported us during the war, and here you are supporting us in preserving the legacy of the liberation war.
“As a country, Zimbabwe will forever be grateful to have a neighbour like Mozambique. Mozambique has been a true definition of a good neighbour.”
Vice President Mohadi said as part of the planned infrastructure development on liberation war sites, Government will also consider establishing amenities that also help local communities where the shrines are located.
“I have heard your complaints and wishes. Some said they want schools. Some said they want clinics. As a Government, we will surely consider placing some of these amenities in areas where we have our liberation war shrines so that locals can also benefit. That is what being good neighbours means,” said Vice President Mohadi.
After the tour of Doreoi Shrine, Vice President Mohadi went to assess the state of Chimoio Shrines, before wrapping up his tour in Mozambique tomorrow with a tour of Massingwga Shrine in Vilanculous District of Inhambane Province.
