Leisure train for Mutare ahead of Sanganai Expo

THE National Railways has announced a special rail leisure service between Harare and Mutare, ahead of the 18th edition of the Sanganai World Tourism Expo.
The expo aims to promote the country as a top tourism destination while exploring sustainable ways to expand the industry and will run under the theme – Devolving Sustainable Tourism Development – Our Future.
The special rail service is a collaborative effort between the NRZ, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Ministry and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
NRZ revealed in a statement that the special train service will have a capacity of 243 passengers.
The railway line between Harare and Mutare has been fully rehabilitated, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey. The NRZ will offer luxury rail travel, complete with entertainment and refreshments, to local, regional, and international exhibitors, buyers, media, and the general public.
“The inaugural luxury train ride to Mutare will depart Harare at 7am on September 5, the second departure will be on September 7 and the last train service for Mutare will be on the September 9, 2025. The return trips from Mutare to Harare will be on September 6 and 8, 2025 – departing at 7am. There will also be an overnight trip from Mutare to Harare on September 12, with the train departing at 8pm. There will be no train on the September 10 and 11 as these days are reserved for Mutare excursions,” reads part of the NRZ statement.
The fare for a one-way trip on this special service is US$60, making it an affordable and convenient option for expo attendees.
