FOOTBALL fans and members of the public have flooded social media with messages of gratitude to President Mnangagwa following the Government’s decision to accord State-assisted funerals to the four Highlanders FC members who died in a tragic road traffic accident.
The decision sparked widespread reactions on Facebook, with many users describing the gesture as timely and compassionate, saying it would bring comfort to the bereaved families and the Highlanders fraternity.
Thabani Moyo wrote: “Good intervention by our national leader in such times like these. We thank God for such intervention that brings the nation together. This is indeed leadership in action. Practical leadership. What an experience of real leadership. We thank God for our President.”
Wilberforce Chaza said: “As the Highlanders family and football fraternity is plunged into mourning of the executives who perished in that horrific crash, I thank our Government for its support. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”
Another user, Moyo Thabani, simply posted: “Thank you a lot Mr President for the support.”
Godfrey Tevera described the development as evidence of responsive leadership, saying: “This is sweet news to us all, a listening government is a government for us all.”
One Facebook user wrote: “We truly appreciate President Mnangagwa’s kindness in granting State-assisted funerals to the four Highlanders FC members. It brings comfort to the families and shows that their service and sacrifice are honoured by the nation.”
Zondlele Mlilo added: “We appreciate.”
Pholisani Moyo also expressed gratitude, saying: “Thank you so much our President.”
Clever Moyo echoed similar sentiments, posting: “Thank you Mr President sir.”
The Government announced that the late Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Fiso Siziba, committee member responsible for finances Nkani Khoza and devoted supporter Mbalenhle Sibanda would all receive State-assisted funerals in recognition of their contribution to football and the nation.
