The song is featured on Walter Sonayi’s debut album called “Kuumba Magariro”.
“I have many songs that I have written over the years, but this my first album that I released. In fact my songs can make up to 40 albums. I am currently working on a new album that will be released this October,” he said.
Sonayi says he is a versatile musician who can sing sungura, jazz and reggae among other genres.
“I call my music Sodza music because I don’t sing one genre. I will soon release a reggae album that will also shake the airwaves,” he said.
The musician believes he is a social commentator. While the title of the album “Kuumba Magariro” tells it all, it is the opening track “Amaiguru” that shows that his mastery of the Shona culture.
The song talks about the options available when a woman is widowed at a tender age, the pros and cons of a single parent headed family as well as the consequences.
Sonayi says his understanding of the Shona culture was influenced by the way he was raised.
“I grew up in the rural areas and my family was very conservative that is why I hold our culture dearly,” he said.
The father of one said he has been holding shows outside Harare and will soon stage shows in the capital. Born in 1983, Sonayi is a qualified architect.
