Charles Chipanga, Namatai Mubariki, Never Mpofu and Simba Dembedza where travelling to Harare when the car, a Toyota Carina, veered off the road just after Gweru around 7am.
Tuku Music publicist, Shepherd Mutamba confirmed the accident. Mutamba said the four sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Claybank Clinic.
They were treated and discharged the same day.
Oliver Mtukudzi was driving behind when the accident occurred. As a result, the band, had to cancel its trip to South Africa to allow the quartet to recover.
“We had to cancel the show we had at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg to allow them to recover. They were actually due to leave for South Africa in the afternoon, when the accident occurred.
“We realised that it would have been futile for them to proceed with the trip after what had transpired,” said Mutamba.
In an interview, Chipanga said he was at home recovering well, except for a few intermittent backaches.
“The whole thing was a shock, but I am fine now and resting at home.
“Namatai (his wife) needs rest as well and just needs to recover from this whole traumatising thing,” he said.
Chipanga said they will soon be up and going once they have fully rested.
In the last few months, the Black Spirits have been holding several shows that have seen them performing out of Harare and as far as Beitbridge.
Their itinerary has seen the band perform in Masvingo, Midlands, Mutare, Zvishavane and this weekend they held a massive gig in the City of Kings. And they have been driving to most of these cities for shows.
Tuku, who last held a show in the city more than a year ago, drew a full house when his fans in and around Bulawayo came to watch the granddad of Zimbabwean music on stage.
Mtukudzi, with the assistance of the Black Spirits has become the most recognised voice to emerge from Zimbabwe and on the international scene and he has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond.
