The worlds of golf and business invariably mix with regularity, but could we see a business person get the chance to tee it up in an an event which is part of the Sunshine Tour Tour?

The Sunshine Tour’s FBC Zimbabwe Golf Open takes place at the Royal Harare Golf Club in the capital from May 9-12, live highlights at www.bmetro.co.zw and social media platforms, with the tournament featuring one-of-a-kind pro-am event.

Organisers have launched an 18-hole competition on Wedesday, the eve of the championships first tee off with the event seeing a field of the business world’s most prominent golfers and a limited field of professionals and amatuers compete in am wvent which is part of the championship experience.

The decision to have such a limited qualifying event might divide opinion on social media, although Zimpapers Sports Hub golf writer, Brandon Moyo revealed why he supports this move.

“There’s a way to get in, and that’s by playing consistently good golf. That gets you up the standings and you don’t need to worry about invites to anyone else, you will play your way in over a period of time, so this is not taking anyone’s spot.

“It shows a bit of savvy from the Zimbabwe Golf Open Committee and the sponsors. They have clocked the fact that golf has always been high among corporates in terms of interest from their executives.

“It’s an absolutely brilliant idea,” Moyo said.

“There’s a certain number of places in the field and there’s always only a certain number of players who get in through their rankings or similar pre-qualifying tournaments.

This pro-am will be the last of a series of three pro-am tournaments that form part of the FBC Zimbabwe Golf Open fan and player experience.
