The play by New Zealand-based author Stan Makuwe, was directed by Daves Guzha and produced by Rooftop Productions. The play was staged to a capacity audience at the centre’s Theatre on Sunday initiative.
The play shows how when life at a mortuary becomes too much to stomach for its dead, they react and take matters into their own hands and try to change their dire living conditions.
Interviewed yesterday, Mhlanga said young artistes were treated to a quality production by some of the country’s best actors. The cast for the play included seasoned actors Zenzo Nyathi, Eunice Tava and Joice Mpofu.
“The play was great to watch and those young artistes lucky enough to be in the audience would learn one or two things. It was generally a great occasion all round,” he said.
Mhlanga said he was happy with the turnout which proved that theatre still commands a following in Bulawayo. He said the crowd had generally responded well to the play, although during the post-performance discussion some felt that the play had been overtaken by events in the last few years.
The Amakhosi’s Theatre on Sundays, Mhlanga said, was a growing initiative that was set to grow with time. Mhlanga said the initiative was a platform for young artistes trying to find their feet in the arts industry.
“This was the fifth week of the initiative and it is definitely growing every week,” he said.
