The deadly gamble of bush sex — A wake-up call for all lovers

IN the dark corners of Bulawayo, hidden from the bustling life of the city, lovers seeking a bit of romance in secluded spots are increasingly finding themselves in terrifying danger. It’s a harsh reality we must confront: bush sex is not only a risky choice but also a dangerous one. The recent brutal attacks on couples in Cowdray Park and along Nyamandlovu Road serve as a chilling reminder that seeking privacy in dark, isolated spots can lead to far worse than an interrupted evening.

A romantic evening for a couple in Cowdray Park turned into a nightmare when two masked thugs ambushed them while they were parked near a primary school. What started as a moment of affection quickly escalated into a horror story, with the attackers forcing the couple to engage in sex at gunpoint, recording the act, probably for future blackmail, before dragging the woman away and raping her. No one should ever have to experience that kind of terror.

Yet, this isn’t an isolated incident. A similar fate befell a man and his girlfriend from Pelandaba suburb, when two armed men ambushed them as they parked along Nyamandlovu Road. Accused the man of cattle rustling, the couple was viciously beaten, raped, and robbed. The attackers then dragged them into the bush, further demonstrating that these secluded areas are nothing less than hunting grounds for criminals.

Both incidents have one thing in common: they took place in isolated, dark spots. The advice from law enforcement is clear: avoid secluded areas, especially school grounds, bushes, and lonely spots. These areas are increasingly becoming hotbeds for criminal activity, where criminals feel emboldened to target unsuspecting lovers.

The police’s warning is not just about avoiding crime — it’s about survival. Criminals are increasingly targeting vulnerable couples in secluded spots, and the consequences can be life-changing. From the terror of being raped, to the fear of being filmed and blackmailed, these are the horrifying realities that could await anyone who chooses to go “off the beaten path” in search of some privacy.

Yet, despite all the warnings, people continue to risk it. Lovers continue to flock to these secluded spots, driven by the allure of privacy, without considering the dangers lurking just out of sight. But the truth is, darkness is dangerous, and there is no amount of romance that justifies the gamble of your safety.

Instead of heading to the bush, why not opt for safer, more secure places? Public spaces, well-lit areas, and homes should be the venue of choice for lovers. These locations are not only safer but also provide a far more comfortable, relaxed atmosphere for spending time together.

The lessons from these harrowing tales are loud and clear: bush sex is not worth the risk. What seems like a harmless, spontaneous decision can quickly turn into a nightmare of violence, robbery, and trauma. The warning is for everyone: love smart, not recklessly.

To those who continue to risk it, remember: criminals are lurking, and they are ready to turn your private moment into a public nightmare. Stay safe, stay smart, and remember that your life is more valuable than any secluded spot.
