A SIZINDA man is in the doghouse after allegedly stealing his friend’s prized German Shepherd and selling it for a measly US$200!
A pure breed puppy can cost up to US$500.
Effort Marifandi (28) found himself before Western Commonage magistrate Skhethile Moyo this week, facing theft charges that could land him in serious trouble.
The court heard how Marifandi allegedly committed the ultimate betrayal on 9 February when he visited his friend Nicholas Ndlovu’s home — and walked off with the valuable canine!
But his scheme went to the dogs when an eagle-eyed neighbour spotted Marifandi making off with the pet. The witness blew the whistle, leading to a police investigation and Marifandi’s eventual arrest.
Prosecutors revealed the accused didn’t even get top dollar for his dastardly deed — selling the purebred German Shepherd for just US$200 before his arrest.
Magistrate Moyo remanded the accused to 8 April 2025, without entering a plea.
The case has left the local community barking mad, with many questioning how someone could sink so low as to steal a friend’s loyal companion.
Animal rights activists have called for harsh punishment if convicted, arguing pet theft causes untold emotional distress to both animals and owners.
Meanwhile, the dog’s whereabouts remain unknown as investigations continue.
