THE DERBY MASH WEST HAS BEEN WAITING FOR

Bruce Chikuni

IT’S the derby Mashonaland West has been waiting for MWOS FC versus Chegutu Pirates at Ngoni in a ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League fixture tomorrow.

This will be coach Lloyd Mutasa’s 12th assignment in charge of the hosts.

It will also be their first fixture at home after the restart of the season and they are hoping for a change of fortunes as they seem to be struggling in their backyard.

He has recorded just a win in five attempts at home soil and they are playing a side which has managed one loss in 18 fixtures.

Dzinza’s 0-1 loss, at the hands of Golden Eagles, remain their only defeat on the road. And, this will probably weigh heavily on Mutasa’s men who are enduring a torrid phase at home.

They are nine points adrift of Warumwa Warumwa after 18 games.

Mutasa’s men were on the receiving end last week as they suffered a 0-1 loss against a spirited Herentals U20 side.

But, Mutasa has faith in the team.

“We had a bad start after the break but it doesn’t mean we have to stop fighting.

“There is still a chance for us to win the championship but only if we can manage to record more points than any team in this final round of games.

“That’s the only way we can achieve our goal and it means we have to start racking in points and it won’t be easy,” said Mutasa.

These two sides settled for a goalless draw in their first round meeting at Pfupajena.

Chegutu Pirates have been the most impressive team in this campaign, so far.

They are within a striking distance, five points behind the leaders.

But, this assignment will be a huge test for Dzinza to show if they are not pretenders in the title race.

Another exciting encounter is slated for Motor Action Sports Club where the Young Students have a date with Golden Eagles tomorrow.

Harare City will be hoping to continue with their fine run when they host Concession United.
