The endorsement queen: The rise of Tamy Moyo

Bruce Ndlovu, Sunday Life Reporter
ON Friday, the arts and entertainment scene in Zimbabwe woke up to some rare good news.

Thamsanqa “Tamy” Moyo, the 21-year-old Zimbabwean songbird and actress, had just been appointed brand ambassador, by Zimoco and she had a Haval Jolion car, which was also on the same day, to show for it. She is the first to drive the car in Zimbabwe.

Zimoco is the only official distributor of Mercedes-Benz passenger and commercial vehicles as well as Jeep, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Great Wall Motors, Mitsubishi, FUSO and Freightliner in Zimbabwe

News of the ambassadorship was a rare ray of hope during what has been another bleak first half of the year for the arts. With no gatherings and bars and nightspots banned, there have been very few avenues for the arts to turn to.

However, for Tamy, an afro-pop fusion singer and songwriter, it is the latest in a string of endorsements that highlight her growing brand on the local entertainment scene.

Early this month, she announced her partnership with the 10X Team at M&J. The company defines itself as a “an advertising, media and branding agency based in Harare that can help get your brand noticed both Online and Offline through the use of Digital and Outdoor Media.”

Only a few days earlier, she had debuted her collaboration with UNICEF Zimbabwe on Your Body is a Temple, a song meant to promote healthy lifestyle mostly among adolescents and youths to lower the rate of undernutrition, overweight, obesity and subsequently non-communicable diseases.

Of her brand ambassadorship with Zimoco, Tamy said “I’m overwhelmed! Keep dreaming African Child because your dreams are valid. Channel your energy into your passion and soar! Zimoco Zimbabwe Haval Global thank you for believing in this little girl with big dreams, for allowing me to be your first proud Brand Ambassador!”

She is most notable for the 2016 song Ndibereke as well as acting role in the 2020, Gonarezhou, released last year.

She also released another hit, ‘Beautiful Ndozvandiri’.

According to Zimoco, it took them two years to make the choice on who to make their brand ambassador until they settled for Tamy.
