After what appears to be a routine for most Harare night spots that offer nothing but just music and booze, The Grain located at the Newlands Shopping Centre is moving a gear up in hosting old skool parties featuring different club DJs on rotation.
Old skool music is synonymous with mature audience who come together to enjoy yesteryear music which is not always on rotation on the airwaves.
The Grain which is one of the up-market hangouts, has become the latest venue popular for its mix of music from the days gone by.
Previous old skool gigs have been well attended featuring some of the big spinners from the old skool. Among the DJs to feature include the duo of Dee Nice and Dee Vine.
Only last weekend the joint played host to Kelvin Sifelani who is affectionately known as” The Soul Supreme”. A massive crowd attended the show as the Soul Supreme played all the classics just the way music lovers liked it.
And this Friday, the club is preparing to host one of the best mix masters – Otis “The Flow” Fraser, the presenter of The Crossover (TXO), the hugely popular afternoon show on Star FM.
On the TXO, The Flow plays the hottest and freshest music from Zimbabwean hip-hop and dancehall to deep house like no man’s business.
In between the show, he also throws slow jams and has a huge following for the “Trash It or Mash It” slot where he showcases his dexterity on the decks. Fans of the show are already familiar with his mixes where he lays R&B tracks on dancehall or hip-hop tracks on dancehall or Nigerian music.
Basically there are no dull moments when he flawlessly presents the show that hits the airwaves from 12 midday to 3pm.
But outside radio, The Flow takes club goers on a journey into sound with flawless mixes that keep fans on the dance floor.
Kudzai “Dee Nosh” Matongo, the host at the Grain said Friday’s show will be a rare treat for club goers.
“Prepare to dance all the way with Otis behind the decks. There is no doubt he’s going to bring down the house with his selection of music and world class mixes. Otis will be supported by Taff Miles and myself on the turntables. Come early and avoid disappointment,” he said.
