ZIMBABWE’S largest circulating daily newspaper, The Herald has been selected as one of the 50 most historical companies and organisations in Zimbabwe by the Book of African Records. The Herald was identified for being the first printed newspaper in Zimbabwe, longest running daily newspaper and the most sold daily publication in the country for 123 consecutive years.
Founder and editor-in-chief of the Book of African Records Tapiwa Muzawazi said it was necessary to publish a book with 50 most historical companies as it helps to understand how society has changed over the years.
“This initiative shows how our society has developed and changed over a period of years,” he said.
“This elite league catalogues commercial or corporate institutions that have had the most profound impact on the Zimbabwean society since 1980. Most of these nominees are organizations without which practically the country would not be able to function today,” he said.
He said the book with the 50 historical companies would be officially launched in January next year.
The Herald has over the years won a string of local and international awards in recognition of its achievements in the media industry.
