The In-Laws to premiere @Book Café

culture and beliefs are traded for a westernised lifestyle.
The In-Laws depicts a very common family setting in the UK, where Munya (Ashley Majaya) is married to Shaniqua (Julie Burleton) a Caucasian English girl with low regard for the African culture.
While Munya enjoys his sluggard, loafer-like lifestyle with his carefree wife, his visiting parents are clearly unimpressed and struggle to come to terms with their disrespectful daughter-in-law.
Munya’s parents clash desperately with Shaniqua, whose indifference to the culture is a complete shock to the conservative elders.
Not only are Munya’s parents struggling with this interracial marriage, but also, they are desperately trying to cope with his new British lifestyle, which seems to be robbing them of one of their daughters.
The film has so far won two international awards.
In September, it received the best film award at the Amasiko Heritage Festival, that was held in South Africa, while Ashley Majaya received the best actor award.
The following month it won the Arts Achievers Awards at the ZIMMA awards that were held in UK.
Karonga said the film features mainly Zimbabweans who are living in the Diaspora.
“The film was shoot using full High Definition cameras and the music was done by renowned artistes likes Decibel, B Kay and Kazz, Money B, and TK Beats, who are now based in UK,” said Karonga.
Karonga has emerged as a contentious film director, introducing heart-wrenching themes that are a direct reflection of societal problems in her movies. She said she is going to work hard to achieve her goals.
“Despite challenges and difficulties in the film industry, I am going to soldier on and further my acting career and continue to write and produce films,” she said.
“I have written and produced two high quality films with ‘Thorns’ being my debut project, which I produced in 2009,” she said.
Karonga has become the first Zimbabwean living in the Diaspora to independently produce, write and direct films.
She is an award-winning actress, having  won best upcoming actress at the ZAFAA Film awards 2011, in UK, for her performance in “Thorns”, becoming the first and, as of last year, the only Zimbabwean woman to have won such an award.
Karonga is establishing herself as one of the most significant upcoming Zimbabwean writer, producer and actresses in a male dominated sector.
