A young gospel group dubbed “The Jesus Project” has composed a song aimed at cementing tribal relations in the country.
The song which is expected to hit all online platforms after its launch slated for tomorrow would dispel all perceptions hanging in the minds of some people who are still believe in tribal fissures.
In an interview, with “The Jesus Project” founder member, musician Brenton Shoko affectionately known as Brent Kudakwashe said the single “Ngcwele Somandla” would go a long way in bridging tribal gaps which prompted him to compose it in both Shona and Ndebele.
“The song is called Ngcwele Somandla and it is going to be launched this Sunday, it will be available on all major streaming platforms and hopefully will get good reception and airplay on radio, a music video will be following when we raise enough money to shoot hopefully,” said Brent.
“I composed this song in both Ndebele and Shona after I discovered something very unusual on Twitter, there is lot of hate between some people from the Ndebele tribe and Shona. The song is encouraging unity among the people not hatred. So I decided to pen a song that praises God but in our two major indigenous languages with the thrust to bridge that gap and show that we are one people despite our different geographical locations.”.
Brent said it was worrying that people who belong to the same country are seen advocating for hate speech, adding the song was a preparation for the group second album launch called “At the Feet of The Master” scheduled for October this year.
“This song is a preparation for our second album called “At the Feet of The Master” which we are going to launch in October. It is an exciting album that is predominantly worship centric but has other different types of gospel genres as you will see that we even have a rhumba song in the album,” he said.
The album is very exciting as most of the songs are a result of our team spirit, it will be an actual blessing to a lot of people. We have already released two other songs as a precursor to the launch titled “Haakurasise” and “Kutaura Chokwadi” and the reception has been overwhelming,” said Brent.
“The Jesus Project” paid tribute to God as he did a lot of Gospel Music Chart Shows and was nominated as the best gospel group at the Star FM music awards.
However, Brent worked as a youth leader and entertainment host for young people in Miami USA and he was in the country since the advent of Covid-19.
“The goal and desire is to see this vision grow to the point where its self-sustainable and all the members can reap the results of their efforts and commitment, in the future we would love to have our own musical instruments and space to hold our rehearsals and practices as well as prayer sessions and strategic meetings without having to struggle to get adequate space in town, as well as being liquid enough to shoot great musical videos and live events,” he said. He also worked under veteran gospel artist like Sabastian Magacha before starting his own project of creative arts with a dance group of youngsters.
He then became one of the founders of Zimpraisekids with Joseph Madziyire.
“I was under his amazing vison (Joseph Madziyire) as the Zimpraisekids Director for a couple of years before I decided to leave and pursue my own vision. That’s when I started The Jesus Project in mid-2017,” said Brent.
