THE football story of Tanaka Shandirwa is a unique one.
It was bumpy, which saw him almost quitting the game, on a number of occasions.
It’s not a surprise that his breakthrough came through at Yadah, as it really needed a miracle.
From not being allowed to play football by his mother, Shandirwa needed the intervention of one of his junior coaches, to break the impasse.
When he was supposed to enrol for Form One, he found himself stuck at home, with no money, to further his studies.
Once again it took the intervention of Coach Chindoza, who negotiated with a certain college, for him to be enrolled.
In 2017, Shandirwa was given the scholarship at Mweyamutsvene.
That same year he played in the Willard Katsande tournament where he was named player-of-the-tournament.
Things are better now and this season he has been in brilliant form for Yadah Stars.
He dreams of earning a move outside the country.
“Whenever I play, my aim is to keep improving myself,” said Shandirwa.
“My football career is still evolving and I still look forward to featuring for big clubs.
“I am also eyeing a move outside the country.
“So, each time I have a chance to play, I always try to give my best.”
The midfielder is nicknamed Kante by his colleagues.
“I feel humbled each time I am called Kante.
“I admire the way Ngolo Kante plays and I try to always emulate the levels he reaches with and without the ball.
“I am grateful to my coaches at Yadah who picked me and believed in me when I almost quit.”
