GREETINGS beloved nation. Many believers have not understood the power and mystery of spoken words and often speak carelessly without realising the impact that their words have on their lives and on the lives of others around them.
Spoken words are a mystery that many believers have not fully comprehended because words possess power. They can destroy or create. Words have the power and ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.
Unfortunately, many believers are unaware of the spiritual consequences of the words that come out of their mouths. There are dimensions of priesthood and kingship that God has given us as believers to rule here on earth. The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 8:4 that, “Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, what doest thou?” This means that as kings, one of the keys to exercising our dominion and rulership on earth is through spoken words.
The Bible also states in Genesis 1:26 that God gave mankind dominion and rulership over all creation. Words are crucial if we are to live lives of dominion and rulership because of the supernatural power they contain.
One thing we need to understand as believers is that this world we live in is the domain of spiritual forces, both for good and evil and these forces react to our words. Demonic spiritual powers in heavenly places respond to our speech as well. People of the world have understood the power of spoken words and can speak demonic programming into people’s lives without their knowledge.
That is why you might hear of people waking at midnight, standing in strategic places, chanting and making all sorts of proclamations. The words they utter are programming the realm of the spirit and the atmosphere. Those words, spoken into the spiritual realm, find expression in people’s lives, communities and nations.
This is why many people, both believers and non-believers, struggle in life — because of words that have been programmed into the spiritual realm. Additionally, it’s important to note that it is not just witches and wizards who speak negatively, we, as parents, believers, teachers, etc., also speak many negative things concerning ourselves, our children, our students, our nation and our leaders, often without realising the power of those words.
Some parents say hurtful things and call their children horrible names, such as ‘dull’, ‘useless’, or ‘you will never become anything’. You will find that the child may indeed become exactly what was spoken over them — that’s the power of spoken words.
Hebrews 11:3 tells us that, “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” God, in His infinite wisdom and power, could have created the world through other means, but He chose to use spoken words: “Let there be,” and there was. Throughout Genesis 1, we see the recurring phrase, “And God said,” and whatever God declared became a reality.
Everything God spoke into existence has remained since that time. He spoke once and never needed to repeat His words. This is a mystery of spoken words. God demonstrated this template by creating the Earth through His words.
The Bible provides us with models to follow. One example is the prophet Elijah, who understood the power of spoken words. In 1 Kings 17:1, it is written, “And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, ‘As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.’”
Elijah spoke a word and declared no rain for three and a half years and it came to pass.
We also see in the Gospels how Jesus ministered through words. Jesus spoke to diseases, cast out demons, cursed the fig tree and commanded the wind—taking direct authority over situations through speech. The fact that these things responded to His words indicates they have ears, can hear and respond.
Demons, sicknesses, creation and the wind all have ears and respond to spoken words.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” This means we should pray and speak as Jesus did. Isaiah 55:10-11 states, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Every word from God’s mouth carries power and authority. Similarly, when we declare or confess, it is an expression of our faith. His word will not return empty but will accomplish everything He desires and fulfill the purpose for which He sent it.
When you make a confession, it becomes a decree. As you confess, you activate the spiritual realm. If someone speaks negatively, that word activates the demonic realm, allowing demonic powers to follow and ensure that what is spoken comes to pass. Conversely, declaring the promises of God activates the angelic realm to assist you in reaching your heart’s desires.
As kings, we must be very careful about what we say concerning ourselves, others, our situations and our nation, because the Bible clearly states, “Where the word of a king is, there is power.”
Whatever negative words you proclaim shall come to pass and whatever positive words you declare shall also come to pass. Remember, the words we speak are uttered into the spiritual realm and possess creative power.
I invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that He is your Lord and Saviour and you shall be saved.
May God bless you all.
