Pastor Kilton Moyo
Welcome all to the New Year. I pray it shall indeed be new to you and you will witness great change in your lives. We praise God His grace has taken us this far and we can testify that we saw 2016.
I have been asking myself this one question though. “How new is the new year and what really is new in the year?” I am not sure if anyone out there can answer this for me. I look around and the only “new” thing I see is the digit 6 because we have changed from 2015 to 2016. In the New Year, we still have load shedding, there are still potholes, roadblocks at every corner, no bonus and everything else that was in the previous year.
In my mind I thought that things change automatically because it is the New Year. I think this is the trap many of us fall into.
We believe the year will sort our messes, change our lives and circumstances and improve our lives and economies.
We begin to put our hope in the year rather than where it must be. Prophets declare how the New Year will be like and how it will treat you and we all make resolutions based on that. I want us to look at this thing differently otherwise you are already failed in the New Year.
Beloved, change is not in the physical calendar year. You will not go out there and find things suddenly changed. You will not get there and find you are better than you were last year. Change is in the mind. The new is in the mind more than in the year.
The Bible says in Romans 12:2, “Be you transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We can change your year monthly but unless you change your mind you will remain the same you, destructive in thought, word and action and going nowhere.
People want change in their lives but do not want to be responsible. To change you must change your mindset and not your physical environment. Here me well on this. We can put bins all over our city, a meter apart, but you will still litter the streets.
We can change leadership and put new people but you will still grumble and be corrupt. We can remove ZRP from the roads and you will still drive without licences.
All the things we struggle with are in the mind. We can celebrate the New Year each year but remain the same unless we have renewed our thinking. Our failure to reign in our old habits is our enemy number one. It is like putting on a new suit on an unbathed body and expect not to smell. It’s the body that smells and not the suit. You are in the New Year but still held up in your old habits and plans that never work.
If you are going to see change in your life in this New Year, be serious with your mindset. Renew the mind. Think better and productively. Stop blaming others but yourself. You have made yourself who you are and it’s not the situation. I agree, the situation is bad but your response to it makes the difference. A few things must change in order to fully utilise the brand new 365 days God has given you as 2016. You see, God is generous. He has given all of us the same number of days and hours.
They are blank and it’s you who writes your story. All He has done is to crown the year with goodness and put His path in it and His path drips with fatness. (Psalm 65). Your duty then is to walk in those paths and enjoy His goodness despite the turmoil in the world.
Stop grumbling and complaining about this and that and make every effort to enjoy the goodness of the Lord. No one owes you anything. You are cheating yourself thinking people owe you in this life. You owe yourself. Grumbling steals your passion for life. It weakens you and robs you of the zeal to improve yourselves. Grumbling suggest that your life is dependent on circumstances around you. It simply says you are unable. Grumbling makes you angry and your anger will never bring about the ways of the Lord. It blinds you and instead of seeing opportunities that are all over you, you see your anger and failure.
Millions of our people are trapped in this. They believe they cannot do things. They believe they do not qualify. They never see the potential in them because they are so saturated in the negative.
Work on your mind. You are trapped and failed there. Transformation comes through the renewing of our minds. You do it yourself. How do you hope to succeed this year while you are still thinking like that? You will not succeed if you do not change your old habits, drinking habits, mbanje habits, stealing habits, gossiping habits and many others.
Stay away from gossip and lawlessness. Engage your life meaningfully. Save your little cash. Have focus and discipline. You can make it if you choose to. Beloved, the new in the New Year is in your mind. You will not find it on the streets if you have not found it in your mind. Renew your thinking. The goodness of the Lord is all over you but you cannot see it and embrace it because of your mindset. His provisions are set but you cannot see them because you are walking the paths of the world.
In 2016, find the path of God. It drips with fat things for you. It starts with the renewing of your mind otherwise come December this year; you will be as you were in 2015.
I wish you all a really fruitful year ahead in Jesus Name.
