LONDON. — Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has decided to reject Arsenal’s final contract offer and see out the last year of his Emirates deal, according to reports.

The Arsenal attacker is a transfer target for Liverpool, but the Reds have not made any official offer for Oxlade-Chamberlain. Oxlade-Chamberlain has just 12 months left on his contract and could walk away for nothing next summer.

Arsenal have moved to convince Oxlade-Chamberlain to commit his future to the club and have offered the England international a significant pay rise. But, the Gunners have not promised Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the game time he craves and that has proved crucial in the 23-year-old’s decision.

The Sunday Times claim the contract is a take-it-or-leave-it offer and Oxlade-Chamberlain will now run down his current deal. Arsenal have told Liverpool Oxlade-Chamberlain is not for sale while the Reds have been linked with a host of other attackers.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was a key member of Arsenal’s good form in the close of the season as he played at right-wing back in a back three formation.

Arsene Wenger made the change with his side struggling to put results together in the final months of the season. The Gunners won their last five league games in a row, but could not pip Liverpool to the final Champions League spot.

It is the first time in Wenger’s reign they did not qualify the Champions League. — Metro
