The PC, France & Hlongwane mystery

Sir 18area.coms
THERE are times when there is so much to say but so little time, so little space. This is one of those Sundays that Sir will just scratch on the surface and head for the next hotspot, the next bone to chew. Phillip Chiyangwa was in France for the Euro 2016 football fiesta and also in Paris was the Minister of Sports and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane.

It is unclear whether these two were together or they just found themselves in the same place.

However, one thing I found amusing was a statement from Hlongwane’s office announcing, or explaining, why the honourbale minister was at Euro 2016.

“The Min of Sport and Recreation is in Paris, France on official duty for Euro 2016. His presence is vital for football administration as well as game play,” reads a statement published in the media on July 1.

Sir says “oh ok” and moves on.

Now Chiyangwa recently wrote a letter accusing Sports and Recreation Commission acting director general Joseph Muchechetere of being power hungry.

Let me bring you up to speed – Muchechetere appeared to give his blessings to Chiyangwa’s move to dissolve Zifa and even wrote to Fifa informing the guys in Zurich that the process to deregister the soccer governing body had started.

However, the SRC stand in boss later made a stunning summersault and accused Chiyangwa and his team of trying to fraudulently dissolve Zifa as part of an elaborate plan to wiggle out of a $6 million debt.

The change in stance did not go down well with ‘Captain Fiasco’ who said the SRC had no locus standi to issue directives on the dissolution of Zifa.

“Your letter (to Fifa) of June 11 confirms your full acceptance of the Zifa dissolution and correctness of Nafaz application for registration. You cannot approbate and reprobate. You can’t change positions on a daily basis,” Chiyangwa wrote in his letter.

“It is clear that there is no provision of the Sports and Recreation Act which authorises you to act in the manner you are doing. You are assuming authority you lack.”

So much about the “god of football in Zimbabwe” and off to Caps United we go.

Someone tells me the learned friend looked set to purchase a significant stake in Makepekepe until he pulled the plug on a proposed deal at the last minute.

I have no reason to doubt that source of mine.

But I have every reason to doubt the football brains of some Caps United fans who are calling for Lloyd Chitembwe’s head when their team is firmly in the championship equation.

Moses “Bambo” Chunga has no such issues at Harare City but his loud mouth has seen the nomadic gaffer stepping on some very big toes.

Hope he lasts.

And Dynamos are mourning about the departure of skipper Augustine Mbara for Absa Premiership new boys Absa Premiership side Highlands Park on a free transfer?

If yours truly didn’t know better, he would have joined in the commiserations.

DeMbare should stop shedding the crocodile tears or at least be honest enough to tell us that they are not crying over losing Mbara but they have wet eyes because they missed a golden opportunity to make some money.

If the club loved Mbara as much as they now claim, why didn’t they renew his contract when it still had some six months to run?

And the once Glamour Boys have to get rid of this misconception that everyone wants to play for DeMbare because the terrain has changed.

It might still be the most supported club in the country but playing for DeMbare is not as rewarding as it was in the years gone by.

Sir exits the scene!
