‘The Polygamist’ stars embrace viral remix of a fan-made song

“The Polygamist” is easily one of the biggest talking points on television right now, in taxis, at work, in group chats, even at that very important church gathering where someone is explaining a scene nobody asked for.

And because South Africans never just watch anything in peace, the show has now jumped straight into music culture.

A fan-made track inspired by the series is making the rounds and it carries that signature sound.

The mix even includes a quote from the show and let’s just say the name Jonasi is not going anywhere anytime soon.

And let’s be real, Mzansi doesn’t need permission to remix anything. Adele could drop a heartbreak anthem and before she finishes the last note, someone here has already turned it into a gqom version.

The track made by @killorbeezbeatz is already doing the most, and it’s one of those that instantly gets people moving. No effort needed, just press play and groove.

In a circulating video, Gugu Gumede and Kwanele Mthethwa, who play Joyce Gomora and Matipa, are seen enjoying the viral sound themselves, fully leaning into the moment alongside fans.

Their clip has added even more attention to the trend online, especially with a caption on the videos that says: “Celebrating the death of that n****”, a line that quickly became part of the wider conversation around the show and its growing cultural footprint.

Even your aunt is now saying “haibo Jonasi!” even if that isn’t even their names in the first place.

There is nothing like us when it comes to this. While the series leans into a hectic storyline, we can still appreciate the acting and everything that comes with it.

The real win is how quickly the song has taken on a life of its own. We’ll be hearing it until keDezemba. – IOL
