THE PRIORITY SHOULD BE THE BABY

IN today’s edition of H-Metro, we have carried an article about gospel star, Sabastian Magacha, responding to the sensational claims that he has not been taking responsibility for the welfare of his six-year-old daughter.

Last week, we carried a story in which Magacha was being accused by his baby mama of abandoning his daughter and had even forgotten her correct age.

She dragged Magacha to the Harare Civil Court accusing him of neglecting his six-year-old daughter.

Magacha’s baby mama claimed in her court papers that the musician used his WhatsApp status to celebrate the SEVENTH birthday anniversary of his daughter when, in fact, the reality was that she had just turned SIX.

According to the child’s mother, this showed the extent of how Magacha was disconnected from his child.

The hearing has been set for tomorrow.

In her affidavit, Magacha’s baby mama said that in 2018, the two were involved in a romantic relationship which resulted in the birth of the child.

The relationship between the two ended when she was still two months pregnant.

Magacha undertook to contribute to the child’s upkeep by covering school fees, medical expenses for serious illnesses, and paying US$100 per month to cover other expenses, including food.

However, he last fulfilled those obligations in November 2023.

She wants him to pay school fees for the child, to pay US$250 with interest at a prescribed rate, which will enable her to improve provisions for the child’s needs.

However, Magacha has since filed his opposing affidavits.

Magacha is blaming his child’s mother for being extravagant and he says she is someone who wants to live a lavish lifestyle.

He revealed that he has secured a place for her where the school fees payable is US$90 per term and it was a decent school and it’s something that he can afford.

However, he claims the child’s mother wants their baby to be enrolled at an expensive school where he will pay US$800 a term.

It appears that there are serious differences between Magacha and his baby mama and this is what is ending up affecting the maintenance of their child.

This is very sad because we should always ensure that whatever are our differences as parents it should not end up affecting the vulnerable kids.

The kids don’t choose to be born.

We the adults are the ones who bring them into this world and that means we are the ones who should always look after them until they are at an age when they can look after themselves.

Here we believe both Magacha and his baby mama should play a part in raising their kid.

This should not be about settling scores or scoring points.

This should be about being a parent and they both have a responsibility to ensure that the child receives the care that she deserves. We can see here that a lot of money is being invested into lawyers yet this is the money which should have been used to take care of the child.
