Bikita Minerals have said they are under no illusion of the challenges they will face in their maiden dance in the domestic Premiership with their mission being to survive relegation next year.
The club brought back top-flight football to Masvingo.
They got their ticket through the boardroom at the expense of Tenax after they were awarded three points from their 1-1 draw against Grayham, who were found guilty of using an ineligible player.
The Lithium Boys were formed in 2015 before turning into a professional league the following year.
They only needed three full seasons in Division One before they gained top-flight status.
In 2018, they finished fourth, in 2019 they finished fifth before winning the championship race this year.
Club chairman, Mike Mushava believes their biggest priority is to survive relegation.
“At the beginning of the season, we were just focusing on a top-three finish but come the end of the season we were crowned champions.
“It’s a definite course for us to be excited but we can’t keep on celebrating as we need to brace up for top-flight league football.
“From history, we have learnt that the top-flight isn’t a kids’ game, especially for the promoted teams.
“We have to do due diligence in our preparations and make sure that we won’t be the whipping boys.”
He added: “We strongly believe in ourselves and that’s why we are here but, to be honest, we still have a lot of work to do.
“The team is going to be beefed up as we try to bring in some boys with top-flight experience which is important to balance the team.
“We will also accommodate the guys we had from Division One.
“We have to reward them and they also want to prove themselves on the big stage. It’s their chance to develop further as players and we are ready to hand them a chance.”
