THE PSL IS DEAD, YES IT IS

Sports Reporter

THERE were mixed reactions to an article we carried in yesterday’s edition of H-Metro about the status of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The top-flight league has been hit by very low turnout of fans.

The much hyped Battle of Zimbabwe featuring the country’s two biggest teams, Dynamos and Highlanders, was watched by less than 3 000 fans.

A number of factors have been raised by fans on social media as the reason for the low turnout.

Below are some of the reactions:

Get sponsors, don’t target gate takings. Reduce the entrance fee even to US$1, it’s better to get a full stadium. Introduce fun games, competitions, and music before kick-off. Star King

Completely dead, that’s why I am now supporting Zambia’s Chipolopolo. They are doing extremely well and I’m proud of them. Silas Chandiwana Ba Chi

It shall bounce back soon. Things will get better! Covid-19 did not help matters and the long ban on sport. Shepherd Snr Nyahwa

The recent allegiance to the English Premiership by most Zimbabwean football fans has caused this notable indifference to local football. Muwonwa Carrighton
