John 15 vs 11
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
I have been reading a book that attempts to explain the difference between happiness and joy.
I think like most, happiness is a goal that I chase constantly but that seems to elude me half the time so it was an eye-opening read that changed my perspective.
Joy is a mindset, it is constant and it’s not dependent on circumstances, while happiness is a state of mind that comes and goes and is dependent on circumstances.
Joy comes when we dwell in God’s presence, when we feel inner contentment and understand our purpose in life, despite the everchanging conditions. Happiness comes from you, but joy is from the Lord.
The bible promises us joy that can only be found in Jesus, the ability to flourish even in the midst of trouble, knowing that God is in control. When we mature in our faith, surrendering all to the Almighty, only then do we reach the state of joy that no one can take from us.
Happiness is a fleeting moment but the joy of the Lord is our strength, always. Our goal as believers should be to seek to be complete in Christ, the source of unshakeable peace and contentment and joy will grow in our hearts, minds and souls and reside there permanently.
Be blessed
