The R200k deal which took Sarafina to Chiefs

JOHANNESBURG. – In this edition of My Paycheque, former Kaizer Chiefs star Rabson “Sarafina” Muchichwa reveals details on the financial package the Soweto giants paid for his services.

The Zimbabwean revealed Chiefs paid Qwaqwa Stars around R200 000 to seal the highly-successful transfer.

“Remember I was a hot property when I joined Chiefs from Qwaqwa Stars,” Muchichwa tells KickOff.

“Fortunately, Chiefs acted fast, as you know moving from a small team to a big team it’s an achievement, it’s like playing for a national team.

“For me, it was my dream to play for one of the big teams in Africa.

“I think Chiefs bought me for R200 000 if I’m not mistaken, as I remember it was somewhere during the nineties.

“I wouldn’t want to dwell on my exact salary as much, but during that time, what I earned was not good enough but reasonable.

“But it was better than where I was coming from at Qwaqwa.

“But if it was in today’s times, I’m definitely sure I would be earning the same figures as Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly.

“Bear in mind I was a defender, actually.

“Actually, before I joined Chiefs, John Tlale invited me to come to Sundowns where I met Alex Tshakoane, but what he told me didn’t make sense.

“I had to go back to Qwaqwa, and when I got there, a big deal to go to Kaizer Chiefs quickly materialised.” – KickOff
