The return of Taurai Mangwiro

Mangwiro was introduced to the players by CAPS United chief executive, Joe Makuvire, yesterday morning and was welcomed by the side which had only managed to collect six points from four outings.

“I am glad to be here, everyone is happy and I have been given a very good welcome,” said Mangwiro.
“I would like to pay tribute to the fans that supported me and it made me not to feel the pinch.

“I got a lot of support from the CAPS United family who paid my appeal fees otherwise I could have suffered because it was exorbitant and other officials and players failed to pay it.

“The guys here did a tremendous job during my absence as they assembled the team which looks a competent side and I thank Cooper (Mukhupali Masuku), Baba Gari (Brenna Msiska) and the CAPS United management.

“I am now looking for a positive result after coming from a defeat at the hands of Buffaloes.”
The former Masvingo and Monomotapa coach said he had a lot to catch up on after six months on the sidelines.

He had shifted his focus to cricket from football.
“Tomorrow (today), I might have time to watch Zimbabwe and Bangladesh at Harare Sports Club. Sunday was my birthday and the slashing of my sentence was a perfect birthday present for me,” said Mangwiro.

“I have a decent squad and I am ready to compete since I have a mixture of youth and experience in my team.
“Valentine (Musarurwa) Takudzwa (Mahori) Terrence (Gonzo) and young goalkeeper Chris Mverechena are some of the players who are going to cause a stir in the league.

“I am not going to set unrealistic targets but I need stability this season although it is the dream of every coach to win the championship”.
CAPS United, who started badly last season, saw things improving for the better upon the arrival of Mangwiro and Masuku.

“I had a decent run last season but now the team is almost new and under a new leadership. It is important that I quickly settle down but the good thing is I have previously worked with most of the players,” said Mangwiro

“I was with Tafadzwa (Dube) and George (Magariro) at Masvingo United. I have also worked with Tawanda (Nyamandwe), Joseph (Mutambiranwa), Domnic (Mukandi) and Jorum (Muchambo) at Monomotapa.”

CAPS United lost their first match after going down 0-1 at the hands of Harare City.
The team, which was under former Warriors’ goalkeeper Msiska, then registered victories over Motor Action and Black Rhinos before a 0-1 defeat against Buffaloes at Gwanzura forced the fans to turn against Msiska.

Magwiro’s first assignment back in charge of the team is a tricky away tie against How Mine in Bulawayo.
