Multi-award-winning actor, filmmaker, MC and television host, Calvin Madula continues to raise the bar as he has once again, been nominated for the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) as the outstanding film/TV actor.
The Dlala Ngamla actor, has demonstrated how exquisite his acting skills are and has been rewarded by being honoured with awards. His name is not new to the RoilBAAs as he, in 2020, scooped the best actor and TV personality award. He has been nominated under the same category this year.
Madula was nominated for his role on Veza ‘The Unfolding’. He is up against equally talented actors in the form of Tawanda Denga (The Signal), Braydan Heart (Soul Mates) and Aleck Zulu (Amacala).
Madula this year also won the Best Actor award at the Zambian Sotambe International Film Festival Awards for his lead character in The Unfolding.
Commenting on his latest RoilBAA nomination, Madula said: “This is a catalyst that will keep pushing me to realise dreams. I’m still hungry for more and ready to keep gracing the screens of the public.”
Interestingly, Madula has established himself as one of the top acting talents to emerge from Bulawayo yet he did not undergo any training as he started off as a model. The runway model trained at Sarah Mpofu’s Fingers Academy and was nominated for the Zimbabwe Models’ Awards.

“I started off as a model and the first time I attempted acting, I was told acting was not for me. This challenged me and after being told that I used that negative feedback as a drive to keep going and here I am today,” said Madula.
As an actor, Madula has featured in soapies that include EzakoMatshelela, Hotel Khumalo, the Ace and Gold diggers and the Netflix movie The Bad Bishop.
He said his journey is only beginning as “big things are coming.
“I’m involved in a number of productions that include drama series and feature films. I’m really excited that my life has changed for the better and I’m still working hard to keep my light shining.”
