Lead vocalist Buhle Mda has announced she will be taking a break from music. This leaves brothers Ntsika and Luphindo Ngxanga, also known as Master P, in the group.
Samkelo Mdolomba, known as Samthing Soweto, left the group over contractual disputes more than five years ago.
Now The Soil is looking for a talented singer to replace Buhle.
She said in a video posted on YouTube that she had decided to answer her ancestral calling. She didn’t say for how long she would be away.
“As Africans we sometimes have to listen to greater beings than ourselves. This is why I’ll be taking some time to concentrate on my ancestral calling.”
From March she will be absent from all performances of The Soil.
The group started in 2003 while the members were still at school.
They recorded their first album in 2011 and last year they released their second, Nostalgic Moment. They have performed all over Mzansi and internationally.
Over the years several celebrities have answered their ancestral calling. These include Lerato Mvelase, Phelo Bala, Baby Cele, Bongani Masondo, Letoya Makhene and Camagwini.
