FOLLOWING a successful run, The Taking, will return to the Bulawayo stage this month before it heads to the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) where it will be showcased.
The play written by Raisedon Baya (pictured) and directed by Memory Kumbota will be shown at the Bulawayo Theatre on April 11.
The play will feature the best of theatre in the city namely Zenzo Nyathi, Gift Chakuvinga, Aleck Zulu, Elton Sibanda and Musa Sibanda.
Baya said they wanted to show the play on World Theatre Day last week but failed as there were no other plays.
“It’s very sad that we couldn’t celebrate world theatre day as no theatre programmes were lined up.
“We wanted to hold the show then but couldn’t and decided to have it on April 11,” he said.
Baya said the play had a full house at its last two showings.
“The play is going to be on the HIFA programme this year and before it goes there it should be shown to those who missed it last time,” he said.
Baya said the play proved popular with the audience because it tells the story that people know.
“The Taking is a reconstruction of Zimbabwe’s history, focusing on the land issue. Most if not all who attend the show will understand the play as they lived through that period,” he said.
Baya said advance tickets for the play are available at Intwasa Festival koBulawayo offices for $3.
