Greetings beloved nation in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Isaiah 50:4, “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned,” The bible tells us in Isaiah 50:4 that God gives us a tongue of the learned. The Message bible says, ‘a well taught tongue’. So meaning a tongue has to be taught what to say, not only that, it has to be taught what not to say.
As believers we have to mind the things we say, and not just speak carelessly. Remember words have creative power, just as we see in Genesis 1, when God was creating the heavens and the earth, he spoke those things into being saying, ‘Let there be…’ and ‘there was’. So in other words what are your words creating as you speak. As believers we have to learn to speak like someone who is learned.
The bible tells us in the book of James 3:5-10, it speaks about how evil the tongue can be, with the ability to bless and curse. We read in the book of Luke 1 the story about Zacharias, the priest and his wife Elizabeth who was barren. One day as he was performing his priestly duties in the temple, he had an encounter with the angel Gabriel, who told him they shall have a child because God has heard their prayers. But Zacharias reacts in unbelief and the angel tells him in verse 20, “And behold thou shalt be dumb and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.”
So there is something that Zacharias did that caused his mouth to be shut. He was going to talk about the miracle that was going to happen, so his mouth had to be shut. His mouth was going to reveal the things of heaven that God wanted to do. That is the problem with ours tongues. People can curse themselves with their tongues, people can bewitch themselves with their tongues, people can curse their ministries with their tongues. We need to learn to keep quiet, it’s not everything that has to be spoken. Even God himself does not speak all the time, he can be silent and that silence is a voice. One time Jesus in the book of Mark 15:3 when he was being accused of many things by the chief priests, the bible tells us that Jesus said nothing. In the book of Joshua 6, we are told about the children of Israel and the wall of Jericho. The Israelites were instructed to go around the wall of Jericho and God commanded them to keep quiet. In verse 10 it says, “And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout, then shall ye shout.”
God commanded them to be quiet because their talk could abort their miracle. Some could have started to doubt and make comments about why they were walking around the wall, some could have said is it possible to destroy that wall and some could have made fun of what they were doing, and their unbelief would have aborted the miracle that God wanted to perform.
Remember the spirit is the mother of the physical, everything is birthed in the realm of the spirit. So meaning we have to first build in the realm of the spirit, before it manifests in the physical realm. The question is what words are we saying about ourselves, our families, our spouses, our work, our ministries, our destinies. What have we aborted because we cannot keep quiet. Ladies and gentlemen the church has not been taught about protocol, the church does not know how to honour. God takes interest in the things we say whether it’s in formal gatherings or informal gatherings.
In the book of Numbers 12:1-2 we read about Miriam and Aaron and how they spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married. Heaven had not said anything about this marriage, yet they decided to speak against Moses saying in verse 2, “And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath he not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it.” God’s anger was kindled against them and he summoned the three of them. In verse 8 it says, ‘wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” How many times do we speak against men and women of God in our informal gatherings, against our families, our bosses? God hears every single one of these conversations. There is certain talking that will bring us down and cause us to be cursed. The bible tells us that Miriam was judged and became leprous and because of that, the children of Israel could not journey for seven days. How many destinies have been delayed or aborted because of the things we say in informal gatherings?
The bible tells us in Malachi 3:16-17, “Then they that feared the lord spake often one to another, and the lord hearkened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. and they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels, and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.” God is attracted by the things we say, and the bible tells us that those who fear God, a book of remembrance was written for them, and God says he shall make them his jewels and he will spare them. A book of remembrance carries rewards. In Luke 24:13-15 on the road to Emmaus Jesus is attracted by the conversation that the two men were having, and it caused him to draw near. We need conversations that will attract Jesus to draw near. May God deliver our tongues from careless talk. May our tongues be taught so that we talk like someone who is learned. Once again I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and saviour, and you shall be saved. May God bless you all. Amen
