DYNAMOS’ latest executive shake-up has pulled the lid off a crisis with resignations and failed power plays.
Treasurer Justice Mubayi and committee member David Chikomo stepped down this week.
This follows a bitter fallout that sources say goes far beyond the much-talked-about AfricaBet sponsorship deal.
On Sunday, an attempt by four executive members to force out chairman Vincent Chawonza collapsed, deepening divisions inside the club.
“The AfricaBet deal is not the issue,” a source said.
“Those answers were not provided. That is where the tension started.”
The club recently sealed a four-year sponsorship agreement with AfricaBet and ContiPay worth US$1.5 million.
Talks are ongoing with First Capital for a separate deal valued at US$500 000 per season over two years.
Long-time partner Sakunda Holdings has pledged US$2.5 million, the biggest offer currently in play.
At the centre of the disagreement is branding on the team’s kit.
Some executive members pushed for First Capital to take the front-of-shirt position, traditionally reserved for the main sponsor.
Chawonza resisted, arguing that space should remain open for Sakunda, given the scale of its proposed investment and the long-standing relationship.
AfricaBet has already agreed to take a secondary position on the jersey, with its logo placed below the squad numbers, allowing room for a lead sponsor.
Chawonza confirmed the changes in the executive but kept his focus on the team.
“Yes, there have been resignations but I cannot go into detail at the moment,” he said.
