ICONIC boxer Charles Manyuchi has on more than four occasions, announced his retirement from the game that gave him both fame and fortune but each time he has always taken another fight.
That has become his modus operandi, and everyone now knows the former WBC welterweight silver champion lacks sincerity when talking of leaving the sweet science.
But an unlikely challenger, Simon “The Undertaker” Madanhire has raised his hand and declared his intentions to send Manyuchi into actual retirement.
Manyuchi is now a heavyweight boxer and last month claimed a routine win over Malawian Limbani Lano in Harare.
But Madanhire says Manyuchi is not getting good enough punches and that is prompting him to think he still has the gas in his tank to take more fights in the name of the final series.
Speaking through his manager Clyde Musonda, Madanhire said Manyuchi is now vulnerable and ought to be pushed into retirement.
“So many times, Manyuchi has told the nation that he is leaving the stage knowing that he is not telling the truth. At the end of every fight which would have been supposedly the final bout, he always says he is taking one last one.
“That means he is not yet done but I have raised my hand to say to Manyuchi, you can’t beat me. I am actually the one to send you into retirement,” said Madanhire.
“I am definitely geared up for it and I can promise my fans a complete act that will bury Manyuchi for I am The Undertaker to take up that task.
“I have always contemplated challenging him. But now is the ideal time to do so. He is now a heavyweight, and this is the category that I rule so I just want to show him that I am the boss in this section.
“We can’t have a boxer who is always saying I am now leaving the stage yet they always remain in the ring. That means they are not getting tough opponents. I want to be that boxer to be remembered for finally sending him home.”
The fight has been scheduled for May 17 with Musonda saying Manyuchi has principally agreed to take up the challenge.
The logistics and contractual issues are currently being sorted out for the bout that will no doubt attract the interest of many.
Madanhire will be praying that Manyuchi doesn’t chicken out in the same manner he did when he was challenged by Mordecai Donga about three years ago.
