As the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) prepares for its upcoming board elections, Vincent Chawonza stands out for his tireless dedication to the development of youth and women’s football in the country.

A man with a passion for the beautiful game that is matched only by his commitment to giving back to his community.

Chawonza’s story is one of quiet determination and selflessness. A successful businessman with a string of entrepreneurial ventures to his name, he could easily have rested on his laurels and enjoyed the trappings of success. Instead, he has chosen to devote his time, energy, and resources to nurturing the next generation of Zimbabwean footballers.

“I believe that football has the power to transform lives and communities,” Chawonza said in an interview.

“As someone who has been fortunate enough to achieve success in my own life, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to give back and help others achieve their own dreams.”

Chawonza’s commitment to youth and women’s football development is evident in the numerous initiatives he has supported over the years. His company, Open Gold, has sponsored youth tournaments and provided financial backing for several grassroots football programs. He has also been a vocal advocate for the development of women’s football in Zimbabwe, recognising the huge potential for growth and success in this area.

“Vincent has been a game-changer for us,” said Collin Nyambiya, founder and director of the successful Bulawayo-based Young Flying Stars Sports Academy.

“His support has enabled us to provide opportunities for hundreds of young people to develop their football skills and compete at the national level. He’s a true champion of grassroots football development in Zimbabwe.”

As Chawonza prepares to stand for election to the ZIFA board, his passion and commitment to Zimbabwean football are more evident than ever. He is a man on a mission, driven by a desire to make a real difference in the lives of young people and to help Zimbabwean football reach its full potential.

“Vincent Chawonza is a man who embodies the very best qualities of football,” said Nyambiya.

“He’s a true leader, a visionary, and a passionate advocate for the sport. If anyone can help take Zimbabwean football to the next level, it’s him.”
