EVER since Horizon Pub and Restaurant in Bulawayo rebranded to The Vista in 2017, the club has become popular among teenagers and youths from the ages of 18 to 25.
Bulawayo boasts of many nightspots, in and around the CBD and all of them have their own target markets mainly determined by the gate charge, liquor price as well as location.
The Vista, which is located in the CBD, is popular among youths as it offers affordable beer prices. And despite the ongoing price hikes, the joint has managed to keep its prices affordable.
Also, from time to time it hosts musicians who are popular among the youths like hip-hop musicians Takura, Cal Vin, Asaph. Next month, it will host Zimdancehall musicians Killer T and Jah Signal as well as youthful events like winter carnivals, pageant competitions, talent shows and the Glow party. Not only does it host music shows, but the club has hosted several comedy shows like ‘The Funny Ballot’ “Trade and laugh”.
The DJs at The Vista have also been another pull factor for the youths as their sets are popular. They play mostly gqom, hip hop, Zimdancehall, Nigerian music and pop music. Added to that, there is no entrance fee at The Vista during the day and $3 is charged in the evening — which is quite affordable.
Despite the affordable alcohol, the club’s classy aesthetic and a breezy atmosphere, state-of-the-art interior designs, a pool and a beautiful view of Bulawayo are other selling points which make the joint sought after. One can also sit and watch a football game in the comfort of the club’s couches.
When one gets hungry, there is no need to leave the club as a restaurant which offers great fast foods like burgers, steaks, pork chops, fish platters and salads is located in the club.
Tight security is offered by bouncers who monitor the behaviour of rowdy youths. They always ensure they are quickly dealt with so they do not inconvenience other patrons. Under-aged children, those below 18 who often try to make their way into the city’s most youthful club, are not entertained by the bouncers.
In an interview, a regular patron — Mgcini Sibanda (18), said: “I prefer going to the Vista because of the type of music which is played as well as the atmosphere.
“I feel like it has become a place for the youths and it’s always fun to drink and have fun with your age mates. The drinks are also reasonable there”.
Sunday Chillas, which are hosted by the club on Sundays, have become very popular as the youths make their way to the club in the afternoon.
The Vista has clearly mastered the skill to attract youths and could be a solution to the Vuzu parties.
