THE businesswoman who made a real life-like birthday cake for Madam Boss’ child, which has sent social media into meltdown, says she has been overwhelmed by the massive response.
Madam Boss’ daughter, Malia, turned one at the weekend.
The socialite invited budding cake makers in the capital to pitch their ideas and Sharon Garaba, of Naka Cakes, came first with a well-crafted cake.
Garaba, a marketing graduate from the National University of Science and Technology, said:
“Like other budding cake makers, I just thought let me take on Madam Boss’s offer. It took me about a day to make the cake.
“I am glad the host loved it so did the guests,” said Garaba, a marketing graduate from the National University of Science and Technology.
Various pages on social media got video clips of the cake and it has gone viral.
“I have been receiving calls and messages on our Facebook page since the weekend and we are hoping to turn these into sales so that we can grow our team.”
The young mother of three quit her job five years ago.
She was a branch manager at OK Zimbabwe and decided the time had come for her to follow her passion.
She has now set up shop at Parktown Shops in Waterfalls where she now employs four full-time workers and two part-timers.
“It was not an easy decision to quit a formal job but I do not regret it. My dream is for every girl child to have a skill that empowers them to be the custodian of their own life no matter the circumstances,” said Garab.
She also runs training for emerging bakers and sells cake-making ingredients.
She has won numerous national awards among them Cake of The Year Gold Award in 2022 and 2023, Most Consistent Cake and Best Cake Artist Runner-Up last year.
Garaba is part of the organisers of the Sunroma Best Collaboration Workshop, which brings together Zimbabwean bakers from all over the world, to network and share ideas in the craft.
