The world’s most expensive cars

significant impact on one’s ability to keep the vehicle in tip-top condition.
Routine oil changes and scheduled maintenance can put a big dent in one’s pocket depending on the vehicle that you own.

Some models are so unique that only a few dealers can service them and in such cases these dealers tend to charge a premium because of their highly specialised skills.

So it is critical that you know which cars have the highest and lowest maintenance costs.
This article is focused on the wealthy among us who have money to splash on importing expensive cars from overseas, most of which are not made for our markets.

I am talking of those whose taste for cars includes the likes of the Rolls Royce, Ferrari or Maybach.
Most dealerships that handle these imported brands are not available here in Zimbabwe at the moment, so the best alternative is to take such cars to South Africa every time they are due for service and maintenance.

So if you decide to purchase one of these cars you should be aware of the potential maintenance expenses that you will have to incur.

So fasten your seatbelts, hold on tight and try not to hyperventilate, salivate as I list for you the most expensive cars to buy and maintain. These are all extraordinary vehicles.
10. Porsche 918 Spyder: US$845 000

The limited production hybrid vehicle is the first of its kind to be produced by the company.
Powered by a 4,6 litre, V8 engine, this baby can take you from 0 to 100 in less than 2,9 seconds. This is one “Spyder” whose web everyone wants to get entangled in.
9. The SSC Tuatra: US$970 000

Shelby Super Cars Tuatra was introduced with the sole aim of dethroning the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport as the fastest car in the world.

It packs an astonishingly impressive engine capacity with a 7-litre engine and 1 350 horsepower.
I can say it sufficiently satisfies all your speed demons and more.
8. Hennessey Venom GT: US$1 million

The Hennessey Venom GT spells out allure with its sleek agility. Auto enthusiasts all over the world laud its 1 200-horsepower engine that makes driving the car to a top speed of more than 400km/h possible.

Steven Tyler, is part of this select club of Hennessey Venom GT owners. Only five of these vehicles are produced every year and, hence, coveted by many.

7. Aston Martin One 77: US$1,4 million
If a US$1,4 million price tag wasn’t enough to ensure that most mere mortals will never get a chance to own one, the fact that only 77 of these cars exist surely will.

A handcrafted aluminum body with its signature Ashton craftsmanship, a full carbon fibre monocoque chassis, powered by an innately aspirated 7,3-litre V12 engine make this a rare collectible in the world of car connoisseurs.

6. Maybach Landaulet: US$1,5 million
The Maybach Landaulet is the last word when it comes to luxury and opulence.
A colour-coded cabin with divided driver and passenger areas, a convertible roof that opens up for an unobstructed view of the sky, seats that rival those of luxury private jets; the sheer scale of its extravagance makes even the traditional luxury sedans like the Bentley pale in comparison.

5. Lamborghini Reventon: US$1,6 million
A car like the Lamborghini Reventon could make you sell your soul to the devil and even enjoy every minute of it.

Inspired by the fastest airplanes, its V-12 engine enables it to reach a maximum speed of 340km/hour.

All it takes is 3,4 seconds for this baby to go from 0 to 100km/h. Can we say Va Va Vroom?

4. Zenvo ST: US$1,8 million
Carlsberg beer isn’t the only thing the Danish got right. They also made a super car with a supercharged 7,0-litre V8 engine, which can go from 0 to 100km/h in 2,9 seconds.
Expect every demand to be catered when you spend such a colossal amount of money.

Each and every detail in this car — from colour, fabric to wheels — is customised. The company also has a team of “flying doctors” who will fly over and cater to any maintenance issues. And if that isn’t enough, you also get a US$50 000 watch for free when you buy this car. Who said the super rich don’t dig bargains?

3. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster: US$1,85 million
The Pagani Zoda Clinque Roadster is considered somewhat of an “exotic” breed in the world of super cars.

It is created using a material called carbo-titanium, wherein carbon fibre is woven with titanium threads.

The handcrafted, turbo charged, super twin engines make this car go from 0-100kmh in 3,4 seconds with a top speed of 362kmph. The company only made five of these.

2. Ferrari 599 XX: US$2 million
It is not just the “rumoured” US$2 million price tag that makes the Ferrari 599XX every carholics’ wet dream.

The car is only available to a select group of Ferrari owners handpicked by the company.
This is one party which is “by invitation only”—seven in the world of the super rich.
Modified for exclusive track events, and armed with a 700hp V12 engine, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 2,9 seconds minus any turbo or superchargers.

Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, this prototype is an extreme track car designed to test limits for maximum performance.

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: US$2,4 million
With great power comes . . . a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport! The fastest car in the world with a top speed of 447km/h is also the most expensive car in the world.

Its 16-cylinder 1 200-horsepower engine can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in a mere 2,5 seconds.
A perfect amalgamation of power and performance, this breathtaking car is the big daddy of them all.

With so many cars titillating you, it is only justified that you feel your life is incomplete until you can lay hands on one of these babies.

However, unless you have inherited quite a fortune from your forefathers, you might need to break the bank or make a deal with the devil.
There you go . . . so buckle up and see you next week.
