Theatre Lab encourages artistes to perfect skills

The theatre laboratory was organised by Victory Siyanqoba Arts under the theme “social relevance: social correctness.”
The event was graced by more than 10 groups.
In an interview, organiser and director of Victory Siyanqoba, Desire Moyo, said performing groups’ turn out was overwhelming.
“As Victory Siyanqoba, we have been overwhelmed by the turn out of performing groups who have dedicated their time to come and be part of the Eziko Theatre Laboratory,” he said.
Moyo said the event gave the groups an opportunity to critique and review each artiste’s performance which in a way encourages them to polish up their skills.
“Some of the groups that attended the event were Siyaya Arts, Umkhathi Theatre, Umdumo Wesizwe, kwaito singer Kaddr, Intombi Zomqangala, Khoi-Khoi, hip hop artiste V-Nix, Victory Siyanqoba, Khaya Performing, Kwabatsha Arts and Inkanyezi,” Moyo said.
He said the theatre laboratory was a commendable initiative as it gave artistes the opportunity to sharpen their skills.
Moyo encouraged stakeholders to promote such events as they were also a platform to network.
“With Bulawayo being the producer of talent and other cities such as Harare being consumers, such events would be successful on a wider scale if stakeholders also support these events,” he said.
Siyaya Arts director and sponsor of the event Simon Mambazo said such events build up people who are positive minded.
“Such events where artistes face criticism and accept it, really encourages positive minded people.
“The intention is to inspire and experiment not just to criticise. And when feedback is given back, these artistes realise where their strength lies,” he said.
