There is room for entertainment in Christians’ lives

place for entertainment in the life of the child of God.
A Christian may relax, go on a vacation from time to time, have some fun, and enjoy the good gifts that God has bestowed upon him and his family. Paul writes to Timothy, “Every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”(I Tim. 4:4-5).

If you want to know what is happening in Christian entertainment, this column will keep you informed. In this column, we will feature musical shows, origins of music within different denominations in Zimbabwe, information and reviews of Christian books, movies, television, music, and much more.
This week, I will focus on Greater Harare Conference that was held a fortnight ago.

The recently ended conference hosted by the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe was a trail blazing experience characterised by gospel music and dance.
Held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, the four-day conference was a great learning and entertainment experience for the AFM family across Zimbabwe.

Running under the theme rekindling the fire of the Pentecost and with powerful guest speakers such as Dr S Kotu from South Africa, Evangelist T.A Rhalekholela and Dr Terry King from United States of America gracing the occasion, this conference was a must-attend for individuals seeking a new revival in their Christian walk.
Gospel entertainment was provided by artistes that included revered upcoming gospel sensation Sebastian Magacha, Zimpraise Gospel Choir and the AFM praise team.

The AFM praise team was arguably one of the major draw cards at the conference. The 80-member group composed of youthful boys and girls displayed amazing talent as shown from their energy and strength as they gave a sterling performance on stage to an appreciative crowd of worshippers.
Dressed in colourful orange and brown dresses for ladies, orange shirts and chocolate brown suits for men, the AFM praise group gave a polished performance and one could see worshippers spread across the stadium starting to pray fervently without needing an instruction to do so.

Drawn from different provinces namely Harare North, South, East, Chitungwiza East and West and Mashonaland, this group is so composed and their DVD album titled AFM hymns shows how popular the group is.
The ZimPraise Gospel Choir also gave a good account of themselves. Being an inter-denominational group founded in 2005 by Joseph Madziyire, son to (AFM) president Aspher Madziyire, ZimPraise Choir is composed of popular gospel heavy weights such as Thembalani Tagwirei, Pastor G and Sebastian Magacha among others.

Magacha took to the stage during the late hours of the day on Saturday when hundreds of worshippers planted across the National Sports Stadium had taken to their benches evidently exhausted from learning and dancing.

One could see the stadium roar to life again as this young artiste began pelting out his hits such as “Ridza Bhosvo” and “Tinomudana”.
So energetic and lively was the 27-year-old artiste that even some pastors, elders and other group members who had been performing could be seen swaying and waving their hands in appreciation while the rest of the crowd burst into a frenzy.

Magacha hails from the city of Kings, Bulawayo. Born in May 1984, he took the gospel genre by storm in 2007 with his hit album titled “Shekinah Glory”. Although he has been in the industry for the last five years, he has steadily made his name.

Magacha has rubbed shoulders with some of Zimbabwe’s gospel greats that include Pastor G, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave and Charles Charamba. He has endeared himself well with gospel music enthusiasts who love his creativity, talent and energy.

Magacha is still basking in the success of his hit albums such as “Tomudana”, “Ndokutenda”, “Makaponesa” and his recent gem of an album “Ridza Bosvo”, which has become an anthem in many Christian music entertainment circles.
