There’s a Bill Gates in each one of you

people like Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Usher, Beyonce, Will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas and other pop stars. They have something in common in their videos — well, besides the vampire werewolf thing they have going on.

One way or the other, they are incorporating robot elements. Most of these international stars are embracing technological advancements in all sectors. They either have these cool computerised stunts, costumes, cars and everything else. It has even gone further into celebrities singing in auto tune. Not only is it the in-thing but it adds that “robot” element to a song.

All this said and done, it does not need a rocket scientists to realise that the next best thing in human revolution lies in Science and Technology. The world of science is broad and is not limited to robotics. It touches every aspect of human life although a lot of people do not realise it.

The phenomenon is not only limited to celebrities in First World countries but it is now all over.
Take a look around you. Day and night many innovations in gadgets and electricals are emerging. Phones, cars, computers, television sets are becoming more complicated and performing a lot of unbelievable tasks.

Life becomes easier and with the touch of a button, gadgets are able to execute complicated stuff. Science and technology is indeed the way to go, no two ways about that.

Cool Lifestyle took a trip to the science and technology chambers at Livingstone House in Harare’s Central Business District. The boss behind the science sector, who is the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Professor Francis Gudyanga, encouraged the teens from Zimbabwe to embrace technology and not limit themselves to be end users only but get into the driver’s seat and start inventing.

“The science and technology sector is broad and touches our everyday lives. It simplifies life if applied in fields like agriculture, health, information technology,” he said.

Professor Gudyanga also emphasised that our Government has realised the importance of getting young people more involved in science and technology.

“Young people are the future and therefore policies have been put in place to encourage them to be innovative. They have what it takes considering that they are investigative. Once they attach themselves on something, take for instance, smartphones, they get engrossed until they know its complicated functions like the back of their hands.

“So what they need is guidance on how they can use that creativity to come up with useful innovations that can benefit the nation,” he added.

Young people who come forward with any form of innovations have an opportunity to engage the ministry which will in turn assist them on the way forward.

“The Ministry of Science and Technology will also help the young innovators on how they may protect their creations through copyright. We give them guidance so they are not exploited if they decide to partner investors.

“We also publish the innovations in our regular publications so that they may get recognition for their work,” he said.

The future of the world lies in science and technology. Some of the things that were once a dream now make sense in the real world because of people who have dared to put their minds to task. Look at the bulb, the memory card, cars, telephone or simply tools that are used to carry out tasks. It took a person like you to realise that through inventing them life can be bearable.

Imagine moving around with a bag of tapes that you would play when you need entertainment? That would be so lame but years back before memory cards were created, people thought tapes were the best thing ever.

One of the wealthiest people alive, Bill Gates was an ordinary teen when he founded Microsoft.
At 19, he made an innovation that managed to revolutionise the world. If he could do it then why can’t you?
