convicted of 30 counts of housebreaking and theft within the town.
Francis Matimbe Chari (22) of St Mary’s denied the charges but the evidence presented by the State convinced Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo that he was guilty. Prosecutor Ms Caroline Kugarakuripi proved that in April last year, Chari and an alleged accomplice Robert Chipendo went to Loise Munetsi’s house at night and stole her property. He was arrested on July 30 but police did not recover any of the property worth US$250.
Chari also broke a window at Eddie Shonhiwa’s house and fished out keys to the door with the help of an accomplice. They unlocked the door and stole property worth US$155. It was proved that he carried out similar crimes more than 20 other times and stole property running into thousands of US dollars.
Magistrate Mr Makomo said Chari was now a professional criminal who was on a daily mission to steal.
In mitigation, Chari said he committed the crimes out of need. – HR.
