Thieves steal $28 000 from Mnene

POLICE in Mberengwa are investigating a case in which thieves broke into Mnene Hospital’s circumcision department offices and got away with cash amounting to $28 000.The police deputy officer commanding Zvishavane and Mberengwa district, Superintendent Robert Mugazambi, yesterday confirmed the break in and theft.

He, however, referred further questions to the acting police spokesperson for Midlands, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende, for details.
Ast Insp Mukwende said she was yet to receive details into the matter when she was contacted for comment.

According to a senior official at Mnene Mission Hospital, the thieves also got away with some sundries that are used during the circumcision procedure.

“The theft occurred on Tuesday night and we only discovered it on Wednesday morning.
“The thieves got away with $28 000 cash and some sundries used during the circumcision procedure that include gloves and tissues,” said the official.

The official said the stolen cash was meant to buy fuel, food and other consumables for the circumcision team which was conducting a mobile circumcision exercise in the district.

“There is a mobile circumcision team that is camped at Mnene Mission Hospital conducting a circumcision exercise in the district.
“The stolen cash was for the team’s fuel, food and other consumables,” said the official.

The official said police officers were by yesterday still at the hospital conducting investigations into the break in and theft.
