Things that can destroy you as a learner

Youth Focus with Dr Manners Msongelwa

Living without purpose and vision

A learner should have vision and aspiration and even be able to plan for tomorrow. You can’t be the best in any trade if you don’t have something you’re pursuing. See yourself in five or 10 years from where you are. Plan now. Remember success and failures are predictable. All this depends on how you use your time today.

Alcohol and drugs

The use of alcohol and drugs is another way learners can ruin their lives. When you get exposed to drugs and alcohol at a very tender age, the effects go beyond school. Practice good habits now. Remember, for you to enjoy your tomorrow, live right today. Your tomorrow is determined by the way you live today.

Wrong association

Your friends ultimately determine what you will become. Choose your friends wisely. Some friends are multipliers while some are destroyers. A wise man once said, “Show me your friends and I can accurately predict your future.” The company you keep determines your accomplishments.

Crime

Wrong association and information leads to drugs and alcohol usage. Be careful of what you watch on the television. Again avoid violent music. Don’t visit places that have nothing to do with your schoolwork. Remember, discipline shapes your character. A disciplined child usually makes it in life. Teachers and prefects are always having problems with you, your parents are always summoned to school for your disciplinary cases. This is not right. Be a good child.

Sexual immorality

Lust, fornication, pornography, rape, masturbation are all sexual immoralities. The devil uses these to destroy the lives of young people. Don’t expose yourself to them. Don’t be in the company of those involved in these activities. All these eventually destroy your future.

Laziness

Hatred of work, oversleeping and an indolent lifestyle are dangerous to the lives of young people. Be a hard worker, study and focus on your schoolwork. Have a functional study timetable that you follow every day. Plan your day every day. Don’t waste your time gossiping, making noise in class, or always visiting the toilet. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. Strive to make yourself a better person. Don’t boast that your parents are rich. It’s them that are rich not you. Work for your riches and become even better than them. Life is not all that rosy, train yourself to be a hard worker.

Love of money

The love of money is a great destroyer for many young people nowadays. Youths are doing anything for money such as rituals and sex. Some are betting, you see them in betting halls trying their luck on Manchester City. Staking in betting corrupts your mind. Honestly, where are you getting money for staking? Remember wealth without work is dangerous.

Don’t love to receive gifts and money from boyfriends or receiving airtime, or bundles. Other youths love new clothes, or iPhones from boyfriends. Be careful, you will be punished for this. No one will give you money or buy something without anything in return. Be content with what your parents have.

If you want to enjoy your future memories, live right today.
