THIRTEEN people were injured after a Zebra Kiss bus veered off the road and landed on its side along the Chirundu-Harare highway on Wednesday.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident.

“A Zebra Kiss bus travelling from Chirundu to Harare was involved in a serious road traffic accident at the 134km peg.

“It is alleged that the accident occurred because of a haulage truck, which was stationary on the road, while another vehicle was coming from the opposite  direction.

“It resulted in 13 people being injured,” he said.

The accident occurred just a few days after two errant drivers, Mike Makwara of Zebra Kiss, and Misheck Penyaiwere of Rimbi, were sentenced to 24 months and 30 months imprisonment after being convicted for reckless driving.

In addition, the two were banned from driving heavy duty and public service vehicles for life.

They had their Class 1 drivers’ licences cancelled.
