Theresa Jackson – daughter to talented comedian Charles Jackson popularly known for his role in the comedy series “Bhonzo neChikwata” – has released her second album titled “Nguva Yekunamata”.
It is clear that art indeed runs in the Jackson family after the 16-year-old singer released the nine-track offering with the assistance of her actor-father who also doubled as her executive producer.
Wonders
No wonder Theresa – who is a Form Four student at St Mary’s High School in Chitungwiza where her family lives – often receives praise from the “First Couple of Gospel Music”, Pastor Charles Charamba and his wife, Amai Charamba, during some of their live performances, after having realised her talent.
The upcoming diva said she was happy that God was working wonders in her music career following the release of her new offing.
“I started singing in crèche after my parents (Charles and Linda Jackson) discovered my talent. They kept on encouraging me and it was only until 2010 when I finally got into the studio and recorded my debut album ‘Mwari Anoshamisa” at Monolio Studios.
“People looked down upon the album because of my youthful age and they didn’t take me serious then, but with my latest album ‘Nguva Yekunamata’ which was recorded at Massive Studios in St Mary’s, I am confident that people will now receive it well,” she said.
Theresa paid tribute to her parents for giving her the opportunity to shine.
She said it takes courage for parents to support their children especially in the arts sector.
“I think parents should first identify their children’s talents and then promote them because these talents can take them further. The fact that I compose my own songs and gifted with a good voice shows that it is not just a fluke but it runs within my veins.
“I urge parents not to foist talents on their kids.”
Theresa – who says she derives a lot of inspiration from the Charambas, especially Mai Charamba – says she always tries to balance her music career and school work.
Accountant
“If I am at school I concentrate on school work and the same also applies to music. I want to become an accountant and graphic designer,” said the singer, who is a member of the United Methodist Church.
The songs featured on her latest album are the title track “Nguva Yekunamata”, “Chauta”, “Musandipfuure Jesu”, “Danai Jesu”, “Ndozvidemba”, “Mwari Mubatsiri” on a jazz tip, “Ngatibate Basa Rashe”, the reggae track “Mwari Mubatsiri” and “Chauta” (instrumental).
Theresa was born on August 10, 1998 in St Mary’s and attended Tangenhamo Primary School before moving to St Mary’s High School.
