A KADOMA man’s plan to snatch a teenage girl ended in handcuffs after the victim’s courage at a police roadblock led to his arrest.
The Kadoma Magistrates’ Court sentenced the 25-year-old man to 8 months effective imprisonment for kidnapping a 16-year-old girl on 29 August 2025.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the girl was waiting for transport home at Patchway Business Centre when the offender lured her into his vehicle.
“Initially, other passengers were present, but after dropping them off, the offender diverted from the intended route under the pretext of refueling,” the NPAZ said. “Instead of taking her home, he drove towards Harare, depriving her of her freedom of movement.”
The teenager bravely raised the alarm at a roadblock at the 79km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, which led to the offender’s immediate arrest. He was detained at Saruwe Police Station and later convicted of kidnapping.
The NPAZ praised the victim’s courage. “The bravery of the victim is commended for speaking out at the roadblock and communities are urged to remain vigilant against predatory behaviour,” the statement read.
Authorities warned that any attempts to deprive minors of their freedom will be met with decisive legal consequences.
