THE 2017 Zimbabwean motorcycling season gets into full swing this weekend with the staging of a Bogwheelers Club-organised Enduro Fun Race Day at Aldington Farm in Harare South.

Top local motocross riders Ashley Thixton and Josh Goby are billed to be the star attractions at this one-day event on Sunday. The pair has done well in all the motocross events they have participated in this year.

And they should be the ones to beat in the 25km single circuit obstacle-filled endurance race which is expected to attract over 25 riders in the seniors’ category.

At least 15 juniors are also expected at the meet, whose winners will be rewarded with medals and trophies. The event’s organiser Tony Rowley said the stage has been set for an explosive race.

“The BogWheelers Club is hosting the Enduro Fun Race Day on Sunday at Aldington Farm in Harare South.

“We are expecting about 25 senior riders and at least 15 juniors at the meet. As the organiser of the event, all I can say at the moment is that the stage has been set and we are ready for the event.

“Spectators will be in for a treat as some top riders have already confirmed their participation.

“It is going to be a very competitive event and we are not limiting the numbers as this is a fun race which is open to every rider.

“We have been very busy in the past few days laying the hurdles and preparing the track. Senior racers will battle it out in the 25km race while juniors will go for about half of that distance,” Rowley said.

The country’s top female motocross rider Tanya Muzinda (12) will be among a number of local junior bikers who are expected to take part in Sunday’s event. This Sunday’s Enduro Fun Race Day will precede the 2017 Festival of Speed which will be held at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare on August 6.
