THOUSANDS of people today celebrated the Defence Forces Day commemorations in style at Sakubva Stadium.

The venue was filled to the brim as scores of people enjoyed the first celebrations after the relaxation of the Covid-19 induced lockdown measures.

For two years, the day was being commemorated privately as public gatherings had been banned.

Several people were turned away as the stadium could not accommodate more people beyond its capacity.

Reading the President’s speech, Minister of  State for Manicland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokhuthula Matsikenyeri applauded residents for coming in their numbers to celebrate the country’s defence forces.

She commended the ZDF for its sterling work in Manicaland’s communities by constructing schools and clinics as well as maintaining good relations in the province.

“The projects undertaken by the Zimbabwe National Army, particularly in Manicaland, have proven to have a strong social and economic impact within the province. We pray that our relationship remains as such and that we continue to grow the province together,” she said.
