A MAN almost died after three robbers mercilessly attacked him and stabbed him with an Okapi knife before allegedly robbing him of US$100 and his cellphone.

The incident happened last Sunday when Tawanda Vashoma from Cowdray park suburb in Bulawayo was walking to his home along a footpath.

A source said: “When he was crossing the railway line which divides Luveve suburb and Cowdray park heading to his home Mbuso Ndlovu (22), Herbert Tshuma (30) and Silent Tshuma (34) confronted him and blocked his way.”

Vashoma, the source said, tried to fight back but the trio overpowered him as they took turns to punch and kick him. Amid the fight, one of the suspects stabbed him causing him to fall to the ground and collapse.

“They fled. A passer-by stumbled on him and informed the police. Police from Crowdray park rushed to the scene and organised an ambulance to ferry him to the hospital for medical attention. He was treated and discharged. He is recovering well at home,” said the source.

Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We confirm that we have arrested three suspected robbers who attacked and robbed a man. We reiterate that members of the public should not use footpaths as that puts their lives at risk,” said Insp Ncube.
