THREE fuel stations in Chitungwiza, Ruwa and Mabvuku lost cash to armed robbers.

Petro Trade in Mabvuku and St Mary’s Total Service Station lost a total of US$1 000.

Security guards, Tafadzwa Zandonda (40), Levy Madza (33) and Revai Kuengwa (40) were attacked by the robbers who got away with US$502 at Petro Trade.

The robbers pounced on the service station at around 1am and disarmed one of the guards of his revolver and panic button after striking him with a stone.

They searched him and took US$22 before tying his arms with a bib and locked him in a room.

The robbers threatened a truck driver with a firearm and searched him, and took US$90 and his cellphone.

They also tied his hands and legs with his shoe laces and left him in the truck.

Two more robbers went into an office where one of the employees was asleep.

They tied his hands with a wire and asked for keys to the safe and he showed them.

They used an iron bar to break the door to gain entry into the room where the safe is kept.

They tried to blast open the safe twice, but failed and then tried to create a hole on the wall, but were disturbed by a rapid response alarm that went off.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the robberies.

“Police are investigating three armed robbery cases at service stations in Ruwa, Chitungwiza and Mabvuku.

“We continue to urge businesspeople to avoid keeping large sums of money at their premises. Instead they must deposit it at financial institutions,” he said.
